Content management Systems, or CMS, allow you to customize how your content appears to your visitors. They let you have your content available in specific shapes, sizes, styles, and more. There are numerous CMS on the market today, some of which are free and others have a fee, but which one is right for you? Look through these CMS and see which has the features you’d like most. WordPress
WordPress is arguably the easiest CMS on the market. It is used everywhere and able to be easily customized by both novices and experts alike. There are many plugins that make WordPress unique for your specific needs, and is easy to get the exact look you are looking for, no matter what type of site you are offering to the world. WordPress is free, as are many of the plugins, and it only takes a few minutes to get a basic site up and running.
Drupal
Drupal has become increasingly used in websites over the last few years. It is extensively customizable, but it is a lot more complicated than most novice web builders could pull off. There are many different additions that can be added into Drupal to make it easy for individuals and companies to use it in nearly the same exact way. While Drupal and most of the extensions are free, this type of CMS requires experience to quickly get a basic site up and running.
Joomla
Joomla has a few hundred thousand users, making it a very popular option for websites currently. It can be quickly customized with one of its many extensions, and is an ideal candidate for larger corporations that want an organized backend style CMS. While many individuals do use this setup, not all individual sites are going to work with the way Joomla is setup. Joomla is free to use, and has an active community of users that can help should you run into any type of problem.
SilverStripe
SilverStripe is one of the newer CMS options that is made for people that enjoy coding. Instead of everything being beginner-simple, SilverStripe is more ideally suited to people who have more extensive web design experience. You can quickly and easily customize your website in most cases, if you know how to put the proper codes into place. This can be used on small and large-scale websites alike, but is not meant for someone without the necessary qualifications.
Umbraco
Umbraco’s CMS is totally free, but the company that designed the system also offers bundles that come with all of the support you could possibly need. You can get many of the extensions to customize your website at no cost, while other, higher-end extensions can also be purchased along with the bundles from the company. You can use this CMS on individual sites or on company sites, and you can even include options like scheduling and multiple versions on your website.
CushyCMS
CushyCMS is a new system that offers a full range of options. It has a free version that is scaled down from the paid version some, but the paid version is only $28 a month. This version gives companies the ability to brand their business and to help set it apart from the competition. You can customize this CMS easily and quickly through the backend, but it does take a little getting used to before the site will be up and ready for visitors.
Express Engine
This CMS is typically used in commercial applications and can cost anywhere from about $100 to about $300 to get. It is easily customized to be able to fit the needs of nearly any business, but it can also be overwhelming if used on a small website. Express Engine offers many features that people are looking for, but it is not set up for a novice to be able to start up quickly. If you want more customization options than the free CMS offer, give this option a try.
